4, Vinella Court

- In the heart of the city along Lillo Street - Via Lillo

4, Vinella Court

This court was the home of Raimondo Vinella (1779 - 1858), an illustrious Galatian doctor-writer who took his name from him. It represents the noblest example of the court's houses in the city, where you can find all the elements of Salento home construction expressed in their best and highest artistic vein. Deciding to close such precious architectural elements in a private space, to live them intimately and in such a reserved way, is an evident sign of a wealthy and reserved family of high culture, which in the first half of the XVIII century chose to take advantage of so much artistic wealth, but if necessary participate in the life of the city through the majestic mignano that overlooks the entrance portal. Inside, the stone embroideries of the balustrade panels can be seen, the musicians cupids carved on the plinths and phytomorphic motifs and the human figures on the staircase. The wealth of decorations and ornaments present in this space make Corte Vinella one of the most evocative architectural episodes of the city of Galatina.
