The Foundation -La Cometa ETS - Onlus-, with the patronage of the Municipality of Galatina, is pleased to present the event -Culture and the Order of the Capuchin Friars- to be held on December 14-15, 2019 at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Galatina.
The project developed and supported by the -La Cometa ETS- Foundation stems from the need to recover the importance and centrality of the Convent and, in general, of the Order of Capuchin Friars in the culture of the Italian peninsula and, in particular, of the Galatinese territory .
Rising at the turn of the 1500s and 1600s, the Convent of the Capuchin Friars, located near the Church of the Holy Spirit, has for a long time been a place of welcome for the poor, orphans and marginalized, for the care of plague victims and the sick, for assistance spiritual of the population and of the soldiers, but also and above all a social-cultural center, gathering artists and scholars from all over Italy, giving luster to the city of Galatina.
The project -Culture and the Order of the Capuchin Friars- is structured on different days that will take place at the Church of the Holy Spirit (Convent of the Capuchin Friars):
December 14, 2019 - 5.30 pm: Conference on the theme -Order of the Capuchin Friars in Galatina-, followed by an exhibition of works by various artists;
December 15, 2019 - 5.30 pm: Lectio Dantis (Canto XI of Paradise) -The San Francesco di Dante reread at the time of Pope Bergoglio- by Prof. Giovanni Leuzzi
22 and 25 December 2019 - from 17:00 to 19:00: Exhibition of works by various artists;
Therefore, this project sets the goal of recalling and bringing to the attention of the Galatine population the importance of this place in ruins and out of time but full of history, charm and culture, in the hope of being able to return the prestige that is right to the Convent of the Order of the Capuchin Friars, as -(...) there is nothing like going back to a place that has not changed (...)- (N.
